John Smoltz announced Wednesday that he will undergo season-ending surgery on his shoulder at a press conference.  The aging pithcer said that the purpose of the surgery was to attempt to correct his shoulder so that he could pitch beyond this year.  This news leaves Rafael Soriano to take over the Braves' closer role for the rest of the season.
