It's has less curve than a curveball but more cut than a cutter. The slider is one of the hardest pitches for a batter at the plate to identify because of its similar arm motion to a curve or cut. Also, sliders look almost exactly like fastballs on their way to the play, but they "drop off the table" the closer it gets to the batter.
