Lou Piniella placed Daryle Ward on the DL sooner than expected and called up Micah Hoffpauir to replace him. Ward inability to help in a 7-6 loss against the Pirates sped up the process. Hoffpauir will pinch-hit, play some outfield, and give Darrek Lee, the Cubs first baseman, a rest.
