Taking a look at starts from 1957-2006, Christopher Gehringer proves that the Quality Start stat is an effective way of gauging a pitcher's worth . A Quality Start has three qualifiers: it must be a starting pitcher who pitches more than six innings and gives away 3 or fewer earned runs. He also looks to see if there's such a thing as a "High Quality Start" and a "Low Quality Start."
