Free agent David Wells, turning 45 this month, has been working out at his home in San Diego and believes he can bolster the Yankees' tattered rotation. Hank Steinbrenner has not ruled out the possibility. Wells was 9-9 with a 5.43 ERA for the Padres and Dodgers last year and was not signed in the off-season.
