With Frank Thomas out, the Jays have a roster spot to fill. The team called up Robinzon Diaz from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the spot temporarily. General manager J.P. Riccardi noted that Diaz would give the team from versatility because of his ability to catch, play third base, and pinch-hit. Syracuse teammate Adam Lind, however, may be expected to take over the roster spot once he recovers from a minor neck injury.
