The Kansas City Royals have designated pitcher Hideo Nomo for assignment. Nomo pitched in relief on April 10 against the New York Yankees, his first appearance in the major leagues since a July 15, 2005 start with the Tampa Bay Rays. Nomo, who broke into the big leagues in 1995 with the Dodgers, was one of the first big-name Japanese players in the majors.
