Red Sox ace Josh Beckett strained his right oblique and will be pushed back to Game 3 of the ALDS against the Angels on Sunday. It was assumed that Beckett would be Boston's Game 1 starter, but he suffered the injury during a bullpen session on Friday.

Manager Terry Francona and the Red Sox are playing this off like a minor thing, but there's no doubt about it – if Beckett is not completely healthy for the playoffs, Boston won't survive the first round. Jon Lester will start Game 1 on Wednesday in Anaheim, with Daisuke Matsuzaka throwing in Game 2.
