Paul DePodesta, as was well documented in Moneyball, was the assistant GM Billy Beane before taking the Dodgers job. From this, it's safe to say that DePodesta is well-versed in running a team with low payroll - so keep this in mind and check out this report - which says that the Padres will cut their payroll by over $20 million next season (which would mirror a similar salary dump Oakland underwent when Beane took over)
