Buehrle Questions How Gavin Floyd Is Handling Pressure

Mark Buehrle was asked about how he thought young White Sox pitchers Gavin Floyd and John Danks were handling (and going to handle) the pressure of the tight race the team is in with Minnesota. And the verteran White Sox left-hander responded by showing confidence in Danks, but questioning whether Floyd will stay cool under the growing pressure.

"If anything, Gavin might be a guy that's affected," Buehrle said. "Danks is so laid-back, nothing seems to bother him. Where Floyd, it seems that a little bit more gets to him. A bigger situation or game might get him more nervous, but Danks isn't a guy I worry about."

Floyd is 11-6 on the season and Buehrle's 8-10. Where the problem lies is that the White Sox, for the majority of the season, had the number one starters' ERA in the league. With Floyd's, and in large part, the team's struggles of late (a 6.75 ERA from the starting staff in their last 20 games) they have dropped to sixth in the AL. Keep in mind, however, that Jose Contreras has missed most of that time because of an injury. But the proof will be in the pudding, as many like to say. In the coming weeks the White Sox will find out whether or not Buehrle is correct about Floyd - which is the great thing about baseball.

Not so great, however, is when one player questions another's toughness in the Chicago Sun-Times, about which I'm sure Ozzie Guillen will have something to say to Buehrle.
