Matt LaPorta left for the Olympics in Beijing on a bad note. In his last ten games before taking a leave of absence from Akron (the Cleveland Indians' Double-A affiliate), LaPorta had been hitting .139. For a guy with as much talent as LaPorta, a stretch like that is hard to fathom. But maybe he has gold on his mind?
