Planning to platoon him with Ramon Vazquez, the Texas Rangers called up third baseman Travis Metcalf from Triple-A Oklahoma. Metcalf has had a slow season, but his bat has heated up since the All Star Break in July. He'll hit against left-hand pitching, something Vazquez has been struggling with.
