The Yankees were extremely dissatisfied with LaTroy Hawkins this year (hence his designation for assignment), so now both the Twins and Tigers would be glad to take the reliever. According to the Detroit Free Press, both AL Central teams are pursuing Hawkins, who had his best seasons as a set-up man in Minnesota. Adding to the appeal for Hawkins is the likelihood that the Yankees would pay almost all of the $3.75 million owed to him for the remainder of the season.
