Even though Kosuke Fukudome came through with a two-run double in the Cubs' victory of Milwaukee and Mike Fontenot won Sunday's game against Florida, Chicago GM Jim Hendry is reportedly seeking another left-handed bat. The names that Fox's Ken Rosenthal is throwing around is Seattle's Raul Ibanez, who would force Fukudome into center full time and put Ibanez in right field. This would limit the playing time of both Reed Johnson and Jim Edmonds who have been productive and extremely impressive throughout the year. The reason for acquiring Ibanez would, other than adding another left-handed hitter to the lineup, would be to get insurance for Jim Edmonds, who has been hurt repeatedly throughout the year. The good news for Cubs fans against the acquisition of Ibanez is that, as of the afternoon of July 30th, the Cubs are reportedly far away from acquiring Ibanez. What they might do, however, is attempt to improve their left-handed pinch-hitting situation by tomorrow. Stay tuned.
