Ichiro reached 3,000 combined hits in Japan and the United States last night with a first inning single against the Rangers. In eight seasons with the Mariners, the 34-year-old has 1,722 hits in 1,224 games. Making up the difference, of course, Ichiro had 1,278 hits in the Japanese league before coming to America. The most interesting thing will be to watch Ichiro in the coming seasons, to see if he can reach 3,000 hits in the major leagues. And while the 3,000 combined hits is quite a feat, 3,000 hits in the majors would be amazing for a player who started his career at 26.
