Toronto GM JP Ricciardi said in an interview Monday that the team will hold on to AJ Burnett for the rest of the season, even though the pitcher (who is in the third year of a 5-year $55 million contract) can opt out after this year. "He's not going anywhere," Ricciardi difinitively said of the 12-9 pitcher. Later in the day, Burnett proved his worth by pitching a fantastic game against the first-place Rays, striking out ten in the Blue Jays' victory. Ricciardi discussed the status of many other players on the team (but, interestingly enough, not Roy Halladay) in the interview, so click here for SI.com's article.
