We came across this interesting tidbit/suggestion in the Chicago Tribune today.  With Kerry Wood struggling to recover from a blister on his right index finger, the Cubs are considering adding Jeff Samardzija to their bullpen to pitch before Bob Howry (8th inning) and Carlos Marmol (9th).  The reason for the former Notre Dame WR/P's promotion, besides pitching very well in the minor leagues, is because it gives the Cubs another power arm in the bullpen.  Samardzija, who is 4-1 as a starter for Triple-A Iowa, is scheduled to pitch Friday.  Whether it's in Iowa or in Chicago will be determined in the next 24 hours.
