The Nationals locked up second baseman Christian Guzman, their only All-Star, yesterday to a two-year extension through 2010. The deal will pay $16 million over that time period, which is $800,000 less than the team paid for Guzman's services over the four-year contract he is finishing this season. A factor for the small market team choosing Tuesday to re-up Guzman to the contract was partly because they had to ensure that they could afford the 30-year-old by dumping Jon Rauch's salary.
