Matt LaPorta, who was recently traded to Cleveland in the CC Sabathia trade, and Colby Rasmus headlined the players chosen to represent the United States in the upcoming Olympics. As most baseball fans know, the team that usually dominates baseball in the Olympics is Cuba, so LaPorta and company should have their hands full.

The full roster is as follow:

Position Players (in order from catchers to IF to OF):  Lou Marson (Phillies), Taylor Teagarden (Rangers), Brian Barden (Cardinals), Matt Brown (Angels), Jason Donald (Phillies), Mike Hessman (Tigers), Terry Tiffee (Dodgers), Dexter Fowler (Rockies), John Gall (Marlins), LaPorta (Indians), Rasmus (Cardinals).

Pitching Staff: Brett Anderson (A's), Geno Espineli (Giants), Clayton Richard (White Sox), Jake Arrienta (Orioles), Trevor Cahill (A's), Kevin Jespen (Angels), Brandon Knight (Mets), Mike Koplove (Dodgers), Blaine Neal (Tigers), Jeff Stevens (Indians), Casey Weathers (Rockies), Stephen Strasburg (San Diego State).

If there's anything that the average fan should take away from this, even though they don't know many of these players, is to simply count how many representatives are from each team.  From this, we see that the teams who have multiple players are widely regarded as having some of the best farm systems (Oakland, Colorado, Cleveland, Philadelphia, St. Louis).  Obviously, a lot of what determines the success of a major league club is the development of foreign players, but the US Olympic team rosters can also be used as somewhat of a baramoter.
