Part of the mystique that led to the country being wrapped up in the rookie season of Dontrelle Willis was his funky delivery that baseball hadn't seen since Fernando Valenzuela. But after struggling mightly with Detroit this season, Willis will dump his trademark delivery in the hopes of becoming a more effective pitcher. The former Rookie of the Year and World Series champion came into spring training looking extremely overweight this year with the Tigers, and subsequently hyperextended his knee in his second start with the Tigers. Willis then made a series of rehab starts, and returned to the Tigers' rotation for one outing, where he gave up eight runs in 1.1 innings. That was Willis' last appearance with the team before being demoted to Single-A Lakeland, where he walked three and gave up one run in two innings of work in his only appearance.
