The Los Angeles Dodgers rank 10th and 15th in batting average and total bases, respectively, in the National League. This prompted the club to fire Mike Easler as their hitting coach and replace him with Don Mattingly. Mattingly was a part of Joe Torre's staff in New York. Mattingly is the Dodgers' eighth hitting coach in 10 years.
