The Tampa Bay Rays added submarine style RHP Chad Bradford from the Baltimore Orioles to their already stellar bullpen on Thursday. Bradford brings an abundance of post-season experience, reaching the playoffs with five different teams with a 0.00 ERA in 17 playoff games.
During last night's 5-3 win in Texas (which saw Mariano Rivera return to get the save), The artist formely known as Pudge Rodriguez was forced to leave after a collision at home plate. The Yankees aren't worried about the severity of the injury, however, since it was diagnosed as a contusion. Rodriguez is listed as day-to-day.
John Maine will throw a simulated game at Shea Stadium Friday, and if all goes well with that and in the days after, expect Maine back in the rotation Wednesday night. The Mets' pitcher has been sidelined with a strained rotator cuff for the past week and a half, which forced him to leave his last start against Florida.
Brian Giles was claimed on waivers today, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting - although it is unclear who claimed the 37-year-old. By claiming Giles, the Padres and the unspecified team have 48 hours to work out a trade. If that doesn't happen, then Giles either goes back to the San Diego or is released to the team.
Although the trade deadline has passed, players can still moved via waivers. This is a way for some teams to dump contracts and contenders to get help.
