The Red Sox are looking to add depth to their outfield because of the injury problems of Jason Bay and JD Drew in the form of oft-injured Mark Kotsay. The addition of Kotsay, who has cleared waivers, would be a big move for Boston in the attempt to have him patrol the spacious centerfield in Fenway. Stay tuned.
Sam Zell, the owner of the Tribune company, said Tuesday that the company had narrowed down the potential bidders for the Cubs down to five. Zell went on to say that the media conglomerate should have a deal in place by the end of the year. No word yet if Mark Cuban is one of the five.
The day before the trade deadline ended, the Rockies said that they were going to hold on to Matt Holliday and Brian Fuentes, who had long been a trade target for teams in contention. Well, the Dodgers acquired Manny Ramirez and the Diamondbacks have played much better since the deadline and now the Rockies are reportedly looking to trade Fuentes and centerfielder Wily Taveras by placing them on waivers since they are out of contention.
A week ago, Carl Yastrzemski underwent a triple bypass, and a week later, the 68-year-old Boston legend is going home. Yastrzemski, the last man to hit for the triple crown, had the surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital after experienceing chest pains. His family released a statement Tuesday that called his surgery a "complete success."
With the Phillies looking to add players in their run for the playoffs, All-Star shortstop Jimmy Rollins questioned why free agents would want to sign with Philadelphia as a result of local fans' behavior. Rollins said that he's heard players say they don't want to put their family and kids in a place where they'll hear obscenities and criticism.
