Mets OF Fernando Tatis separated his right shoulder on Tuesday and will likely be out for the remainder of the season. Tatis was having one of the better seasons of his career and his injury just adds on to the challenges the Mets are facing in their race to win the NL East. Tatis was replaced by Nick Evans.
The Dodgers have won 13 of their last 15 games, and Manny Ramirez is a big reason why. Manny had 3 hits in a win over the Pirates on Monday, improving his totals since joining LA in late July to .395 with 14 HR and 43 RBI. One thing is for sure, it does not matter what uniform Ramirez is wearing, fantasy owners will get their numbers year in and year out.
K-Rod may be the more celebrated closer this season, and for good reason, but he has a long way to go if he wants to be known as one of the best closers of all time. That title belongs to none other than Mariano Rivera. The long time Yankee shut down man has moved into second place on the all-time saves list, converting his 36th save of the season on his 37th attempt. Chalk up another productive season for Rivera.
It must be nice to be a part of the Cubs rotation right now. A game after Carlos Zambrano throws a no-hitter, Ted Lilly did his best to repeat that performance with a gem of his own against the Astros on Monday. Lilly, who started the year 0-4, did not allow a hit until the 7th inning and has since gone 15-5, rewarding all the fantasy owners who stuck with him.
Yankees captain Derek Jeter does not seem to be ready to throw in the towel on the season just yet, getting 3 hits for his third straight game. In the process, Jeter tied celebrated Yankee Lou Gehrig for the most hits at Yankee Stadium. Jeter has about one week to break the record and his next chance is Monday against the White Sox.
