The Dodgers have activated Rafael Furcal after four and a half months of DL time. To make room on the roster, they placed starting pitcher Brad Penny on the 60-day DL. This will be Penny's third DL stint of the season and the team estimates he needs abput 4-6 weeks for recovery. In the meantime, Furcal will do his best in these last few games of the regular season to prove himself ready for the postseason.
Tampa Bay speedster Carl Crawford feels ready to suit up for the playoffs, but has yet to be cleared to play by the medical staff. The Rays could certainly use Crawford for the ALDS, especially on defense and on the base paths. The All-Star outfielder will likely miss this series to be 100% for the ALCS, pending a Rays victory of course.
The Rangers may not be playoff bound but the season is far from over for third baseman Hank Blalock. Blalock has homered in four straight games and 13 hits in his last 5. Hopefully for the Rangers and fantasy owners, his momentum will roll over to next season.
The Brewers are determined to get their money's worth out of CC Sabathia, asking him to make his second start on only 3 days rest. Some have criticized Milwaukee for the way they have handled Sabathia but he understands that he gives his team the best chance to win. CC supports the decision to have him pitch on short rest and hopefully for fantasy owners, it will not affect his pitching in the long run.
With a Red Sox win, the Yankees have officially been eliminated from the playoffs. The silver lining after tonight though, is that five time All-Star Mike Mussina is having one of his best seasons ever on the mound. Mussina moved into 33rd place on the all time win list with a victory over Toronto Tuesday and is one game away from his first ever 20-win season. The 39-year old will Boston in the final game of the regular season on Sunday.
