Joba Chamberlain will return to the Yankees on Tuesday in a relief role, according to multiple reports. Chamberlain threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Saturday, which he is reportedly feeling no ill effects from.  And the return of the Yankees' future ace-of-the-staff can not come soon enough, considering that the Yankees now face the Rays for three games on Tuesday.

CC Sabathia continued his outstanding run with the Brewers Sunday, pitching the best game of his career against the Pirates. The only hit that the free-agent-to-be allowed was a fifth inning swinging but to Andy LaRoche, which scooted under Sabathia's glove and was ruled a hit.  The thing is, the Brewers are appealing to the league office to get the scoring of the hit changed to an error on Sabathia, which would give CC the first no-hitter of his career.  Either way, Sabathia was brilliant.

And then the league lowered the mound and the steroid era began in the late 1980s, and now it seems like there's a wide array of players who are hitting for the cylce. Including last night, when the Nationals' Christian Guzman hit for the cycle. The most impressive thing was that in the eighth inning, Guzman hit the triple on command from his teammates.

Sorry for all of the Red Sox and Yankees headlines, but the injury and DL stint of Josh Beckett is a rather big story.  The Red Sox' ace was examined by Dr. James Andrews Friday, and it was soon-after determined that Beckett has a strained right elbow. This move is retroactive to Aug. 18, so Beckett could return as early as next week for the series opener with Texas. Beckett is undoubtedly vital to the postseason hopes of the Red Sox, so the team was extremely relieved to learn that his elbow is clean.
