There's something about charismatic managers that can get a team to bond and win. Trey Hillman is extremely passionate about the sport, and this passion led a Japanese team that sounds just like the Kansas City Royals to win the Japan series. Hillman's drive to keep the Royals (10-13) and their fans upbeat will go so far as to ride his unicycle through the clubhouse just to make the guys laugh and relax.
Chipper Jones must have talked to Frank Thomas about being an old slugging veteran before his birthday game . Chipper has been very hot in his career in April, and especially hot this season thus far. Jones leads the majors with a .442 batting average, seven dingers, and twenty runs knocked in. After going 3-3 against the Marlins to put his team on top, he's showing no signs of stopping.
Frank Thomas, less than a week after his release from Toronto, signed with the Oakland A's Thursday. With the move, Thomas will return to his familiar role as the A's designated hitter, replacing the likes of Jack Cust and Mike Sweeney. Thomas's stock is significantly up this morning, so pick him up and hope he returns to his 2006 form, when he belted 39 home runs for Oakland.
