Carl Pavano is expected to start for the New York Yankees on Saturday in what will be his first appearance since April 2007. Pavano, who has most recently been sidelined after Tommy John surgery, is in the final year of a 4 year, $40 million deal with the Yankees - a contract which is considered one of the biggest busts in recent history.

Umpires, MLB Agree To Begin Using Replay

It seems to be a rarity in everything related to baseball that the league acts quickly. And, depending on how you look at the league's need for replay (the Jeffrey Mayer game comes to mind), it seems that Bud Selig acted quickly to preserve the integrity of the game by instituting instant replay. At this point, however, the details of the agreement between the umpires and MLB are unknown - specifically how long it will take to implement instant replay.

Isringhausen Reportedly Calls It Quits

After tearing a muscle flexor near his right elbow, Jason Isringhausen, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, walked away from the team Tuesday and said "I'm done." The injury, which affects Isringhausen's ability to grip the ball and flex his wrist, will definitely end the former Cardinals closer's season, and it seems that the 35-year-old's career could also be done.  That sentiment, of course, is intensified by the quote the Dispatch received Tuesday. Stay tuned.

Yaz Undergoes Triple Bypass

Carl Yastrzemski was hospitalized last night after experiencing chest pains. The Hall-of-Famer underwent a triple bypass today in the attempt to unclog his heart. For the official statement from Yaz's family, click on this link. The outfielder, who was the last person to hit for the triple crown is currently resting comfortably in Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dodgers Close To Acquiring Maddux

Greg Maddux is close to once again moving to Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the Dodgers have agreed to a deal that will send the future Hall-of-Fame pitcher to the first place Dodgers. It's unclear who the Padres would receive in return.  Elsewhere, the fate of Tom Glavine's career lies in the hands of Dr. James Andrews. Yikes.
