Chi Sox’s pitcher Gavin Floyd has been off to a great start this season. Only 24 days ago he took a no-hitter into the eighth before surrendering a hit. On Tuesday night he once again took a no-no into late innings, this time to the ninth. He got the first out before finally allowing a hit to 2006 AL Batting Title champion, Joe Mauer. Floyd will have to wait again for another chance to accomplish his illusive no-hitter.
Curt Schilling, one of the league’s premier pitchers hasn’t been at his prime for a few seasons as he has battled numerous injuries. His latest one, affecting his right shoulder and bicep, landed him on the 60 day DL. He will throw for the first time this season with the Sox’s assistant trainer Tuesday afternoon prior to their game against the Tigers. Only time will tell if he returns to his dominant form of years past.
After baffling the Houston Astros over 4 1/3 perfect innings of relief in his major league debut, the Arizona Diamondbacks are giving Max Scherzer a chance to show what he can do as a starter. Scherzer, 23, was called up on April 20 when Arizona needed immediate bullpen help.
Roger Clemens issued a public apology to his family and fans on Sunday, saying he was sorry for "mistakes in [his] personal life." Clemens' statement, the first since he was accused of an extramarital affair with country singer Mindy McCready, did not elaborate on what he was apologizing for; however, Clemens took the opportunity to reiterate that he had never been involved with McCready or taken performance enhancing drugs.
The New York Yankees sent Ian Kennedy to the minors on Sunday, hoping the young pitcher can correct the problems he has faced this far in '08. Kennedy, 23, has gone 0-2 with an 8.37 ERA in six appearances (five starts), and will be replaced on the roster by Darrell Rasner. "I was kind of surprised," Kennedy said, "but it's bound to happen if you don't win."
